Course Description – Dawley Institute of Technology
The Steel Fixer Course at Dawley Institute of Technology is a complete twelve-week program designed to help students build strong skills in steel fixing for the construction industry. This course covers both basic and advanced techniques needed to handle and install steel reinforcement in concrete structures.
At the beginning, students are introduced to essential tools, materials, and safety procedures used in steel fixing. They will also learn how to read and understand construction drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate placement of steel reinforcement.
In the early weeks, students will focus on basic skills such as cutting, bending, and tying steel bars according to required specifications. They will gain hands-on experience in preparing and organizing steel for different construction tasks.
As the course continues, students will learn advanced steel fixing techniques, including the use of specialized tools and equipment for large projects. They will also study different types of reinforcement, such as deformed bars and steel mesh, and how to install them properly.
Midway through the course, students will understand how steel reinforcement works with concrete formwork. They will learn about load-bearing requirements, correct placement methods, and how to ensure strong and durable concrete structures.
Towards the end, students will explore advanced topics such as steel fixing for complex structures like high-rise buildings and industrial projects. They will also learn quality control methods and best practices to ensure their work meets industry standards.
The course ends with a practical project where students will plan, install, and inspect a complete steel reinforcement system. This allows them to apply all their knowledge in a real-world construction scenario.
